Enderby Band Awards 2010

Five Bands celebrate their achievements and present awards to outstanding players.

The Enderby Bands held their Annual Social and Awards Presentation at the Braunstone Civic Centre on the evening of Saturday 2nd January. All five Bands enjoyed a convivial evening, with the highlight being the presentation of awards to outstanding players and supporters.

The Junior Band Player of the Year was Daniel Briars, who received an award presented by the Junior Band’s Musical Director, Sam McClumpha, whilst her father, Stuart, MD of the Concert Band presented his award to trombonist Steve Lowe.

Musical Director of the Youth Band, Trevor Hounsome, began his presentation by congratulating the Band on performing at 36 events during 2009. The Section Award went to the Percussionists Greg Greenfield and Harry Morris, whilst the MD’s Award for the Player of the Year was deservedly won by Solo Cornet player Vikki Day from Enderby. The Players’ Award, decided by a vote of Band members went to Soprano cornet player Paul Bosworth of Lutterworth.

Sallyann Bartram, leader of the 45-strong Wind Band then took the stage to present five awards – two of which went to the most improved players of the year, Alexandra Males and Julie Lamble. Penny Harrison received an award for Outstanding Achievement. Section of the Year went to the Bass players, whilst the Players’ Award, again decided by vote amongst the Band, was presented to Clare Sanderson.

The Enderby Senior Band have been through a difficult year, but are working hard towards a successful 2010. Musical Director Jonathan Mott decided to present his Award to bass trombonist Tom Chinnery from Broughton Astley, who also received the Players’ Award.  Repiano Cornet player Megan Roberts from Cosby was presented with the Committee Award for her outstanding contribution to the Band.

Senior Band Baritone player Chris Stanley was presented with both the John & Doreen Sleath Memorial Award, and the Heather Townsend Shield, in recognition of his tireless work for the Senior Band over the past year.

A brand new award, the Chairman’s Trophy, was presented for the first time by Youth and Junior Band Chairman Dave Smith, to the band player showing the most commitment during the year. The inaugural recipient was Youth Band Solo Cornet player James Screaton of Cosby who started out with the Enderby Junior Band eight years ago. James then presented gifts to departing band members Jenny Hage and Simon Reeds.

All of the Enderby Bands are actively seeking new members, so if you play a brass , wind or percussion instrument, or would like to do so, please contact Elaine on 0116 2774422. Membership fees are minimal, and the Band can provide both instruments and tuition –they are a friendly lot, so go on, give it a blow - you could be a recipient of an award next year!
