Silver Award for Enderby Youth Brass Band in National Contest
"Very polished performance" say adjudicators
April has so far been a busy month for the Enderby Youth Brass Band.
Following their highly successful tour of the Vosges region of France over Easter, they then participated in a well attended Joint Concert with the Enderby Junior Band and the Concert Band at the Parish Church on Friday 16th, before travelling up to Manchester on Sunday 18th, to compete in the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
This prestigious competition is held annually at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Competing in the Intermediate Section, the Band were up against some of the best Youth Bands in the country, but gave a superb performance, including a scintillating version of ‘On with the Motley’, featuring soprano cornet player Paul Bosworth described by the adjudicators as "a fine soloist with real clarity".
Musical Director of the Youth Band, Trevor Hounsome, was targeting a Silver Award, and the Band’s performance precisely achieved this aim, receiving one of only three such awards presented by the adjudicators.
"A good band and M.D." was how adjudicator Malcolm Brownbill summed it all up.
Several of the Youth Band’s performances at Manchester will soon be on their You Tube channel.
