Fanfare from Enderby Brass Band heralds the start of the
Special Olympics in Leicester
The Opening Ceremony of the 2009 Special Olympics took place on Saturday 25th July at the Walkers Stadium, Leicester, in the presence of Prime Minister Gordon Brown
Enderby Youth Brass Band played a Fanfare specially composed by Tim Steiner, to celebrate the event.
Earlier in the proceedings the Enderby Band had played "Army of the Nile" to the crowd, estimated at some 20,000, before being joined by Youth Brass 2000 and the Leicester-based Philharmonia Orchestra to play the Fanfare before the Athletes Parade.
Other local celebrities present included Martin Johnson, Paul Nixon, and former rugby player Matt Hampson, who suffered a spinal cord injury in 2005.
Matt founded the 'Matt Hampson Trust', for which the Enderby Bands have played benefit concerts.
