Enderby Band News
Enderby Youth Band at Blackpool
A great week-end was had by all, players and parents alike, at the Action Research Youth Entertainment Championships of Great Britain, held at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool on the 10th February.
The Youth Band were up against thirteen of the top youth bands in the country. Each band had to perform a twenty minute programme of music and entertainment. Enderby's programme started with Mamma B, specially arranged for the Band by
Jack Peberdy. This is a very lively piece influenced by the Blue Grass tradition of music from the Deep South of the USA and allowed each section of the band to shine. This was followed by Vic Day on Flugal who played a hauntingly beautiful
solo of the Barbara Striesland hit 'The Way We Were'. We finished with a number called 'Visions'
We were really delighted to be awarded the prize for the band with 'The Most Potential'. This achievement represented a lot of hard work and many extra hours of rehearsal in preparation and was all the more remarkable given that twelve of the
players had only recently joined the band. Our congratulations and thanks go to the Youth Band players, their Musical Director Trevor Hounsome and to our compere, Allister Smith.

Junior, Concert and Youth Band 'Spring Concert' on the March 1st
For those of you who came to the concert I am sure you will agree it was an excellent evening. The Junior Band, conducted by their Musical Director Sam McClumpha, included some of our young players
making their first 'public' appearance. They started off the evening's entertainment superbly with 'Severn March' followed by 'Singing in the Rain', 'Jerusalem' and 'Indian Rondo'. The adult Concert Band, conducted by Stewart
Osgood, made their debut. They played a very polished programme which included a medley of Beatles numbers to which the audience tapped their feet and sang a long.
Refreshments were served by Ruth Smith from the Guides, who raised £150 in donations towards a Guide trip to a Jamboree in Iceland.
The Youth Band played the second half which included a taste of their Blackpool Entertainment programme and 'Zambezi' which they had learned in the last two weeks. As ever they gave a superb performance.
Adult Band needs more cornet players
The new Adult Band welcomes brass instrument players and particularly needs more cornet players. They practice on a Thursday evening at Huncote.
