Senior Band Welcome New Faces

30 Sep 2015

The Enderby Band is pleased to announce the signings of Rob Wilshaw and Matt Capaldi in preparation for a busy year end.

Rob will take the solo trombone seat and brings a wealth of experience with him. Originally from Stoke on Trent, Rob is a graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire and has previously played for Trentham Brass and Forester’s Brass 2000, before joining the famous Foden’s Band at the start of the year. Unfortunately Rob’s work commitments meant leaving the band recently and Enderby were quick to snap him up for the vacant solo trombone seat.

Commenting on his new position, Rob said:

‘I’m thrilled to be asked to join the Enderby Band and I’m looking forward to the busy diary of concerts and contests. Enderby has great support and I’m looking forward to working with Simon who has a huge pedigree with bands right at the very top. I’m sure his guidance and experience will help to shape Enderby into a force for the future.’

Meanwhile, Matt will be playing repiano cornet and comes to Enderby from the Shephard Group band. Hailing from York, Matt is currently studying International Relations at the University of Birmingham.

On joining Enderby, Matt commented:

‘The band was so welcoming and friendly when I went to a rehearsal I already felt at home. There’s a great atmosphere in the bandroom and the band work really hard, but still manage to have fun in rehearsal.’

The band’s musical director, Simon Gresswell was understandably pleased with the new members, stating:

‘Matt came recommended to the band by Richard Wilton MD of Shepherd Group Band. He is a fantastic addition to the cornet section and we are delighted to have him on board. I was also delighted to secure the services of Rob. He is a fine trombone player who has gained lots of experience having played with Foden’s recently, Rob will enhance the band greatly.’

The band is now hard at work preparing for a busy Autumn season which sees them competing at Wychavon Entertainments Contest and their ‘home’ LBBA contest, as well as performing at two of Leicester’s biggest concert venues – DeMontfort Hall and Curve Theatre.

Band spokesman, Ian Hayto stated:

‘The band is really buzzing at the moment, and Matt and Rob are very welcome additions. We’ve been looking for the right player to fill the solo trombone seat since May this year, so we are delighted to have a quality player like Rob to do that. Matt came very highly recommended to us and is already proving to be a valuable member of the cornet section. The timing is just right too with the contests and big concerts coming up. The concert at Curve is a huge event – a commemoration of World War Two and it is sure to be a sell out on the night. It is also due to be broadcast on radio so it will be great publicity for the band. Things are very positive with the band at the moment, it’s a thrill and privilege to be part of it.’

The concert at Curve is titled ‘We’ll Meet Again’, and takes place on Wednesday 11th November, the DeMontfort Hall concert with a combined Rock Choir from the Area takes place on Saturday 28th November. Please see the respective venues websites for ticket information.
