Enderby Youth Band
Enderby Youth Band has been in existence for 18 years. For fifteen years it was led by Stewart Osgood, while in more recent years Trevor Hounsome has been the Musical Director.
Throughout its history, the emphasis has always been on achieving high musical standards….whilst having fun! The Youth Band has often been described as a “musical Youth Club”, and the social side is as important to our youngsters as the playing.
With this in mind the Band has specialised in Entertainment contest successes, the most prestigious of which has been winning the top Entertainment prize at the Action Medical Research Youth Brass Band Entertainment Festival of Great Britain on two occasions – in 2000 and 2006. This major competition is attended by only the best Youth Bands of Great Britain, and standards are consequently extremely high.
Other contest successes include Silver Awards in 2005 and 2007 from the National Youth Brass Band Championships, and 4th place in the British Open Youth Brass Band Championships of 2006. The most recent result being the Youth bands 1st place in the youth section at the Hebdon bridge competion
On the social side, the Band organise an annual residential Training Weekend with guest Musical Directors and Tutors to introduce the Band to new music. The Band has also undertaken concert tours of Belgium, France and Cornwall, and in april 2010, we will be visiting a Band in France.
The Band also plays its part in raising funds for charities – for example, a recent concert in conjunction with Kibworth High School raised £850 for the Matt Hampson Trust – Matt Hampson is a Leicester Tigers Rugby player who was seriously injured whilst training with England. During the past year, the Band has also raised more than £500 for causes such as “Children in Need” and “Wishes 4 Kids”.

We pride ourselves on being a Community Band who provide both entertainment and education in the locality. We work hard and play hard, and the parents become as involved as their children in the life of the Band.
In short, the Youth Band really is an extremely rewarding social activity for all the family.
